Giving cats and dogs a permanent form of identification superior to tags and collars.
Microchipping is an important step in helping you and your pet get reunited if they’re ever lost. It’s safe and cost effective because one chip lasts your pet their entire lifetime. We recommend they get microchipped sooner rather than later. If you’re interested in booking an appointment, please contact us at 519-941-6383.
We implant your pet with a rice-grain-sized chip. We typically use a needle to inject the chip into your pet’s skin, typically between their shoulder blades. If they’re recovered and brought to a shelter or veterinarian, the chip transmits a unique identification number. Its radio frequencies are detectable with handheld scanners and don’t require a battery to work. The ID number is registered with a pet recovery database that stores your contact information so you’ll be notified if your pet is found.
Collars can be removed or fall off. The contact information you have on them can also become difficult to read overtime. However, when combined with a microchip, they’re more effective. Since microchips are permanent, they’re the best type of pet ID we can recommend.
It’s impossible to fully protect your pet from getting lost but there are a few steps you can take to decrease the likelihood of it happening. Ensuring your pet wears collars and tags and regularly checking to make sure they haven’t fallen off is a good start. It’s also important to keep your contact information up-to-date in the pet recovery database as well as ensuring it’s still readable on your pet’s tags. Try your best to use leashes and harnesses when possible as well as monitoring your pet closely while they’re off the leash in open areas. It’s also a good idea to inspect and patch any holes in fences or areas where your pet could escape.
