Euthanasia

The process of easing your pet’s pain by ensuring they receive the best care in their final moments.

Euthanizing your pet is a difficult decision. We want you to feel fully supported in making a choice that is best for your family and loyal companion with our veterinary team’s expert veterinary advice. It’s important to consider your pet’s quality of life when deciding if it is time to peacefully end their life. We will consult with you about your pet’s condition to guide you through this process.

What is euthanasia?

Euthanasia is a way to peacefully end your pet’s life, while maintaining their dignity. Our veterinary team will give your pet a life ending injection that stops their brain and heart, almost instantaneously. The goal for your pet is not to feel any pain during the process. We try our best to ensure their comfort and not cause any unnecessary distress. If you’d like to discuss the process more, please contact our team at 519-941-6383.

When is it my pet’s time to say goodbye?

There isn’t a “best time” when it comes to saying goodbye to your pet. Regardless of when they transition, it will be a loss you and your family will endure. What’s most important when trying to consider this decision is how your pet’s quality of life is being impacted by their illness or other health condition. This means the bad days seem to outweigh the good, they haven’t seemed like themselves in a while, or that they are constantly in pain. Signs your pet may have a poor quality of life include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of mobility
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of breath

How can you help me with this process?

Our veterinarians use a quality of life scale to help you to determine the best course of action. If you decide to euthanize your pet, we’ll decide a date that will give you the time needed to say goodbye to your furry family member. We encourage you to spend as much time as possible with your pet until their appointment. After the procedure, we can also offer grief support that can help you manage your emotions in healthy ways.
