Dermatology

Specialized care for various conditions that affect your pet's skin, nails, and fur.

It’s likely your pet will have some skin issues throughout their lifetime. Especially since your pet’s skin is unprotected from the elements. (This increases the risk of infections.) In addition to causing discomfort or pain for your pet, skin issues can also be a sign of a health issue. Regular veterinary exams allow us to check your pet’s skin regularly to ensure its overall health.

What types of skin issues do pets have?

Your pet’s skin can be infected if they have an allergic reaction to environmental allergens like pollen or other sources of irritation including:

  • Food allergies
  • Parasite infections
  • Hot spots
  • Skin allergies
  • Bacterial infections

How do I know if my pet has a skin condition?

If you notice your pet is excessively scratching at their skin, this could be a sign that they have skin issues. It’s time to give us a call at 519-941-6383 especially if it starts bleeding. Other signs you can look out for on your pet’s skin are:

  • Bumps and lumps
  • Redness
  • Sores
  • Dryness
  • Flakiness
  • Fur loss

How do you treat skin issues?

Over-the-counter treatments seem convenient but they can be ineffective and cause long term health issues. If you notice any irregularities with your pet’s skin, we will assess and prescribe the best treatment option. These include topical creams and injections. It’s also important to have your pet on a parasite preventative to protect against fleas and ticks.
